The Art of Vytynanka
National Museum presents the exhibition of a famous Lviv-based artist Daria Alioshkina who preserves the traditional art of vytynanka - the paper-cut designs.
The exhibition displays the artist’s best vytynanka projects of the past three years – Goddess, the One Who Reads; Christmas Angels; Paper Cut Curtains.
The graduate of Lviv National Art Academy, Daria works with stone, wood, sand, ice, paper. She has participated in 35 Art Symposiums in Ukraine and Poland, 23 Ukrainian and International exhibitions, presented 12 private exhibitions.
Daria Alioshkina has been popularizing traditional art of paper-cut designs for over ten years. She uses traditional Ukrainian symbols combined with personal imagination to create her designs. Main motives of her art work are Tree of Life that symbolizes power of a family, a Woman image of a Magician, Goddess, Saint.
Paper-cut vytynankas had been used in Ukraine for interior decorations since the 19th century. Daria Alioshkina promotes this forgotten art experimenting with traditional motives and implying new, modern, meaning to her work.
